Dear Readers and Residents of Darien,
Ahhhhh spring. How welcome it is with the new growth and change of temps it brings—a fitting time we think to take a look at all the growth and change in town. There’s much to consider, and we’re pleased to steer your attention to our cover story view of it through the lens of a selection of our town leaders. At the very least, we hope you will walk away understanding the role we fill in maintaining the essence of Darien as we embrace this growth, as well as the seat at the table we have as residents to make our views heard through the new 10-year Plan of Conservation and Development currently in development. (It goes out for public review on May 7th.)
Speaking of the role we play in shaping our town, be sure to check out “History Matters” in the pages ahead. Through the voices of Middlesex Parish 250 committee members, the group crafting the exhibits, community events, installations and educational programs that form the local celebration of America 250, we see how we are history and history is us. So interesting.
As for the rest, Peter Saverine is back with a terrific profile of McGuane Park, a nice fit for this baseball time of year. Darien resident and former executive director of The Community Fund, Janet King, is in with a fun Mind Set column with her sister, a seasoned veterinarian, from her newest venture as co-host of her sister’s Speaking Of Pets podcast. Some great wisdom here.
For all the home refreshing and renewal that comes with spring, we present Natalie Landry’s take on exterior painting. Love including her singular voice and knowledge in the magazine! …and how about our local sports coverage from Darien’s high school students through DAF Media?! Find out all about what they do (and how they do it) to make sure there’s little we miss in high school sports coverage in spring, and throughout the year. What a group!
