Congratulations to the Darien High School Class of 2025 who will join generations of graduates on June 16th, rain or shine!
Dear Readers and Residents of Darien,
As I say in the cover story opener on page 17, yes, Matt Vossler is my husband. Had he not been, we would have featured him long ago for all he has done to support cancer research through Swim Across America, the national non-profit he co-founded decades ago. Because hundreds of Darien swimmers have jumped in to support the local SAA event since it started nearly 20 years ago, atop those who have been part of the broader organization since long before that, we decided the time had come to share the story. Tell the truth and editorial integrity will hold. That’s what we have done and our hope is that you will be inspired by Matt and the many who have joined him in the fight against cancer.
In honor of men’s mental health awareness month in June, we are pleased to direct you to the Q&A with Darien resident/Rhone Co-Founder and CEO Nate Checketts in this issue. It’s about mental fitness, particularly as it relates to men, and Nate’s commitment to advancing mental wellness with the same vigor he devotes to growing the Rhone line of activewear.
Also in the pages ahead are our annual tribute to Darien couples married last year and another terrific article from Darien’s Peter Saverine. This one is about Zucchero Café, the more-than-worthy sequel to Darien’s beloved Sugar Bowl at 1033 Post Road in the center of town.
In tribute to the 30th Anniversary of the nonprofit Grassroots Tennis and Education, you’ll also read about the good work being done by a devoted team of staff and volunteers, including many from Darien, to lift young people to their full potential and deliver them to the best future possible.
